With Mother’s Day coming up in the US, TIME magazine asked a number of high-profile celebrity mums to write open letters to their children, touching on everything from their experiences of motherhood to their hopes for their children’s futures.
One such celebrity was fashion designer and mum-of-four Victoria Beckham, and her offering makes for a truly moving piece.
Entitled “It Is Important That Our Children Understand Humility”, the 41-year-old pays a touching tribute to her three sons and daughter.
Describing motherhood as “simply the greatest achievement of my life”, Victoria gives an insight into the emotional struggle of parenting, and trying to find a balance between “boundless elation” and “inevitable worry and concern”.
Praising her four young ‘wonders’, the former Spice Girl writes: “They are kind-hearted and well-mannered and have incredibly enquiring minds, and I feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by these phenomenal human beings.”
Victoria recently revealed how eldest son Brooklyn has taken on a part-time job to earn his own money, so it’s not surprising to see her admitting here that one of her greatest hopes for her children is that they will understand humility, and work hard to achieve in their own right.
Finally, Victoria pays tribute to mums everywhere, adding: “I have always been a great believer that women should support women, and my admiration goes out to mothers everywhere, as they constantly put their own needs behind those of their children…”
What a beautiful dedication. Whatever she ends up doing, we can be sure that Victoria will enjoy her Mother’s Day celebrations.
