When you’re going through a difficult time, a compassionate gesture can mean the world to you – which is why the actions of the two British teens in the following report is so disgraceful.
Two female teenagers are awaiting sentencing, after admitting to conspiring to kidnap the children of vulnerable mothers they reached out to online.
The girls, aged 17 and 18, appeared before Derby Youth Court in the UK this week, to face accusations that they preyed on mothers via a fake Facebook page they set up offering free kids’ clothing.
The attempted kidnappings are said to have occurred in September of last year. The women swapped details with a number of the mothers on the social media site, but their plot only came to light when one of them turned up at a house pretending to be a social worker.
The mother grew suspicious when the ‘social worker’ said she wanted to take the child away for a ‘medical check-up’, and she called the police. During their investigation of the incident, the police discovered the incriminating Facebook page and took action against the teens.
Both women have been granted bail as they await sentencing.
Speaking at the hearing this week, investigating detective Sergeant Duncan Gouck said: “This case was unique to us in its nature and seriousness. We have never come across a case like it.”
