It doesn’t take a lot to make a kid happy and even the simplest of things can go a long way in making them feel secure and confident.
Don’t let them go hungry
A hungry child is definitely not a happy one. There is nothing quite like it to cause a tantrum, cranky or disobedient child. Like adults, kids can’t think straight when they are hungry, so make sure it doesn’t get to that stage. Feed them at regular times and don’t let them miss a meal. If there is an hour before dinner, give them carrot sticks to munch on or if you are heading out make sure to bring a sandwich.
Let them cry
Just like adults, kids have emotions that they need to express. Let them cry, scream or have a tantrum when they need to, even if it is in the middle of a supermarket. Don’t get mad at them or let feelings of frustration linger, instead offer them help and a way out of their bad mood. Never shame them or humiliate them in front of others. You won’t like someone to do it to you.
Let them play
Let kids be kids and give them time to allow their minds to wander and their imagination to grow. Don’t have them so over scheduled that they don’t have time to play or are too tired to - play is an important part of growing up.
Let them make their own decisions
Giving your child choices will help them to feel in control. Allow them to choose their outfit at the weekend, even if they mismatch wellies with a summer dress, who cares so long as they are happy. Giving them a chance to make their own decisions will go a long way in allowing them feel in control and grown up – all kids want to feel grown up.

When your little one is showered in love and support they will feel confident in what they do. When they know they have your backing and support no matter what, they will explore things with confidence and take chances.
