It has been confirmed that acclaimed Irish actor and father-of-seven, Frank Kelly, has passed away at the age of 77.

The veteran actor, who graced both stage and screen over the last 60 years, was best known for his role as Father Jack on the much-loved channel 4 show Father Ted.

The actor, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015, survived bowel cancer in 2011 and was also treated for skin cancer and cardiac issues in recent years.

Frank, who had been married to wife Bairbre for 51 years. was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and his death comes exactly 18 years after Dermot Morgan's - his co-star on Father Ted-  who died following a heart attack on February 28th 1998.
