An organisation called As I Lay Me Down To Sleep has been praised by heartbroken parents for helping to lessen the pain of having to say goodbye to their terminally-ill infants.
The organisation which was launched by Cheryl Haggard, who had to make the heartbreaking decision to switch off her son's life support machine in 2005, aims to capture the final moments between parents and their children before they pass away.
Launched in the States ten years ago, the service has become a popular choice for parents who want to create treasured memories with their little ones before saying their final goodbye.
As it stands the organisation has 1650 volunteers across 40 countries and hope they can be of assistance to parents who want to document special moments in their child's tragically short life.
Commenting on their aim, the organisation says: "'Our mission is to introduce remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of professional portraiture."
Founder Cheryl discusses what it was like to have her final moments with Maddux captured on film by a friend, saying: "That night was the worst night of my life. But when I look at the images, I am not reminded of my worst night. I’m reminded of the beauty and blessings he brought."
A heartbreaking testimonial on the website read: "On Saturday March 17, 2012 around 10:45 am, we said hello and good-bye to our beloved son. It is shocking to know that he is physically no longer with us. Yet we are glad that your organisation exists and was able to provide us a lifetime of memories through the baby pictures taken of him."
Commended for helping families through incredibly difficult times, As I Lay Me Down To Sleep say: "We believe these images serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honouring the child’s legacy."
