She found herself at the centre of attention earlier this week after her onstage fall at the BRIT Awards, and now Madonna has hit the headlines once more over her controversial comments about drugs.
The 56-year-old was appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show last night when the show host brought up a lyric from her track ‘Devil Pray’, in which she sings: “We can get high, we can get stoned, we can do Es, we can do acid”.
Admitting that she doesn’t like to take drugs herself, the mother-of-four said that she would never tell her children not to try them for themselves.
The singer, who is mum to 18-year-old Lourdes, 14-year-old Rocco, and nine-year-old Mercy and David, said: “I am not a big fan of drugs. They just don’t suit me…I just ask my daughter to make wise decisions and to do things in moderation and to try not to mix her alcohol.”
She added: “I am not going to say “no, don’t do it” because that is just absurd. And it is not fair. Yeah, I did it.”
Needless to say, her comments have come in for criticism on social media, particularly among concerned parents.
“Did Madonna really say she would give her kids drugs in moderation? #classylady #parentingskills,” tweeted one user.
Meanwhile, another wrote: “Nice comeback from the fall…shame you let your kids try drugs…funny, if I did that they would be taken off me.”
