About: This fabulous 80 acre discovery park and visitor centre is a place where families can escape and reconnect with nature, while also having lots of fun. There is a unique 140 metre walk through the beautiful riverside trees at Castlecomer Discovery Park which is nestled in the tree top canopy 10 metres above ground level. While this is a paid-for activity, the park itself is free to visit, with its walking trails, woodland sculptures and many others things to see and do throughout the year.
Castlecomer Lakes provide fishing for beginners and experts, with two well stocked lakes. There is also an exciting variety of workshops to allow you to discover your creative side. There is a lovely picnic area where families can relax on a sunny day. The Family Nature Trail is available at the Visitor Centre for €5 and can be used to liven up your walks. The trail uses questions about the park and puzzles to encourage families to explore and appreciate the woodland.
You can learn all about the local history and science through an exploration of the indoor muti-media ‘Footprints in Coal’ located in the Visitors Centre. Here you will also find a gallery, a gift shop and Jarrow Cafe.
