Making friends may not come as easily for children with ADHD.Here are some tips on how you can help them overcome obstacles and make friends:
- Keep friend groups at play dates small - e.g. one or two children.
- Teach your child about how to join a group and start a conversation. You could try some role play.
- Arrange some structured activity for when friends first arrive.
- Teach your child about what friends do, such as sharing and taking turns. Practice at home before friends arrive.
- Encourage your child to join groups that are supervised by adults, such as a sporting team.
