They always appeared the picture of contentment and happiness on the red carpet and, indeed, Paula Patton and Robin Thicke shocked everyone when they ended their 10-year marriage.
With their divorce finalised just this month, actress Paula has opened up on how she has been adjusting to life after marriage.
Appearing on The Meredith Vieira Show, the 39-year-old said that while she feels like “a real woman now”, the journey has been met with plenty of challenges – particularly with the couple’s four-year-old son, Julian.
She recalled: “I took a lot of time off to be with him and then I had to pack for a trip because I had to go to work, and he said, ‘Mommy, I don’t want you to go to work.’”
“It’s the challenge of being a working mother and it’s the first time he ever said that to me, because I did the work when he was a baby but now he is more aware of everything, so what are you going to do? It’s sort of the trials and tribulations of being a woman. Right?” she added.
Paula, who had been in a relationship with Blurred Lines singer Thicke since they were teenagers, admitted candidly: “I cried. I called my mom and I cried, and she said, ‘Darling, I had to work. We all hear that.’”
Paula’s comments come just days after presenter Denise Van Outen opened up on raising her daughter following her split from husband Lee Mead.
